What if we trusted Him?

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

I was reminded again today of the necessity of surrender. For the child of God, for the one who says “Jesus is my Lord”, surrender is not an option. Surrender is simply saying, “You’re in control, and I’m not. I give this thing to you.” For anyone who would claim faith in Jesus Christ, surrender must be our daily reality. Surrender must be the place we find ourselves in.

I was reading through 2 Kings 4:1-7…the story of Elisha and the widow. I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t yet read it for yourself, so just take a moment and go there now and read this short account of absolute surrender…

I can’t help but think about all the blessing that would have been forfeited in this widow’s life had she not trusted God with all she had left in this world (a small amount of oil) and surrendered it to Him. She could not have been more desperate for God to move in her life. She had little left in this world to claim as her own, and what she did have was about to be taken away, but she entrusted all that she had to God’s care, and her life crossed paths with the miraculous!

Can you even imagine being in her shoes? Can you imagine her brokenness? Can you imagine the faith it took for her to surrender all that she had, trusting that God could make much of her little? And He did! So, today, I would pose the same question to you: what blessings are you forfeiting in your life right now because you refuse to trust God with your broken pieces? What if you just trusted Him? What if you gave Him all that you had, all of yourself? What blessings might flow into your life if you would just trust Him?

Proverbs 3:5-6 are probably two of the most well-known verses in Scripture, yet with familiarity often comes complacency. Verse 5 commands us to trust in the LORD. Again, this is not an option for the child of God. So, are you? Are you trusting Him with your life? With your struggles? With your pain? Or are you defaulting to your own understanding, your own way? What if we trusted Him? Just think about it.
