“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:1-2
Aren’t you grateful that you and I will never find God in an unreceptive mood when we come to Him in prayer? He doesn’t keep office hours. He’s never too busy. He’s never overwhelmed, and He always welcomes us when we come. Yes, God takes sin seriously, but He also delights in showing mercy and extending forgiveness to each and every repentant heart.
That is why I love the cries and the pleas from the Psalmists like this one in Psalm 51. We can be confident in knowing that when we come to agreement with God on the matter of sin in our lives, He will rise to show us compassion. When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us from our sins (1 John 1:9). God responds to confession and repentance every time. May your heart be blessed in knowing that truth!
With the remembrance of the cross of Jesus Christ on the horizon as we approach Good Friday, I’m literally moved by the grace of God poured out on mankind. Sin continues to overwhelm this world, yet God still responds with grace, love, and forgiveness to every broken spirit and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17). Every time. He is faithful, and His promises are true.
The lyrics from the Gungor song “We Will Run” have overwhelmed my thoughts today.
“Save us from our ways, O God.”
“For we have turned away from you.”
“We will run to you.”
“Turning from our sin, we return to you.”
“Father, heal your world, make all things new.”
“Bring us back to You.”
These are words that God takes great delight in. May these words be the cry of our hearts today and forevermore: “Bring us back to You, Jesus!”
