“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
Father God,
I’m reminded again today in your Word that you meet me in my storm, just as you met Peter in the storm on the Sea of Galilee. You may call me out into the waves and the wind, but you meet me there. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you. When I’m tempted to look away and focus on all that rages around me, remind me of the peace you offer to the one whose mind is stayed on you. Teach me to dwell in the safety of your gaze. Forgive me for the times I’ve turned away from you in fear and doubt and focused on my circumstances instead of your face. It’s in those times that I’ve failed to make much of you because I’ve gotten so caught up in making much of my problems. God, you are bigger and greater than any storm I will face. Help me to be still and know that you are on my side. Since you are the One who rules the wind and the waves and every storm that enters my life by the sound of your voice, help me to submit my worries and fears to your care, trusting that you will order my steps and that you will provide for my every need. I feel like the father who cried out to Jesus, “I believe! Help me overcome my unbelief!” God, I trust you. Help to resist doubt and fear when they creep in, knowing that dwelling in either causes my faith to be crippled. I cry out to you, this is my desperate plea. I know you hear me. I know you incline your ear to the cries of your children. And I know that in your compassion, you meet my desperate cry with your extended hand. God, I trust you, and I reach out and grab your hand. Pull me to safety by your side. Even though the storm might persist and rage on around me, open my eyes to see what it is that you’re trying to teach me through it. You always have a purpose; you always have a plan. So, God, I trust you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
1. What do you find most difficult to trust God with?
2. Using Isaiah 26:3, journal your own prayer to the Lord as I did above, a prayer of commitment to trust in Him.
3. Pray your prayer over someone in your life that desperately needs to trust the Lord.
