Have you ever been asked if you have a life verse? What is meant by that question, I think, is this: Is there a particular verse that you’ve adopted as the motto for your life? Others might simply understand this question to ask: What is your favorite verse?
Well, I would have to say that I have several, and here’s why. There have been so many different seasons of my life and different ups and downs that I’ve been through, and in each season, there was a different verse that carried me through. These portions of God’s Word have grown so dear to me over time that it’s not uncommon for tears to come to my eyes as I read them again, remembering how God met with me in those moments. Anybody else out there know exactly what I’m talking about?
Today, I thought I would just share some of my “life verses” with you. These verses in particular have given me faith when I felt I had none left. They’ve provided comfort and hope when I needed it most. And they continue to bring me joy as I read them again and again. I hope that your heart is flooded with faith as you read them, too.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14 NIV
When I struggled with insecurities and feelings of rejection, this verse reminded me time and time again that God didn’t make a mistake when He made me. He called His finished work of me wonderful.
“The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11 NIV
The promises within this verse have proven true time and again in my life. When despair sought to overwhelm me, and when discouragement threatened to steal my joy, the LORD satisfied me every time I turned to Him. He guided me when I didn’t know where to go. He brought blessings into my life when I chose obedience.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV
There were times in my life when all I wanted was for God to remove the pain, to take away the difficulty, to fix the problem. In those times, I was met with His promise of sustaining grace. There will never be anything on this side of heaven that His grace cannot see me through.
These are just a few of my favorites. What are yours? Do you have a life verse? What scripture has provided you with the hope and comfort that you need to get through each day? Do share! I will never tire of hearing how God uses His Word to change lives!

Before I was formed in the womb God knew me; before I was born, He set me apart. (Jeremiah 1:5); Even in my old age and gray hairs the Lord will sustain me. He will carry me and rescue me. (Isaiah 46:4); You Lord are faithful to all your promises and loving toward all you have created! (Psalm 145:13b)
