Fear.
It affects us all. It creeps into our thoughts, and it seeks to overcome us. It causes us to feel overwhelmed and alone. It opposes our faith. And so many different things cause us to fear.
How do we overcome fear instead of being overcome by it?
I’ve been in many conversations lately about this very thing. I’ve spent time encouraging others to trust the Lord in the face of daunting circumstances, and I’ve also been on the receiving end of this encouragement as well as I face things that cause me to fear. Just today, I found myself back in a place where faith seemed to take residence in the back seat while fear took the wheel.
How do we overcome fear instead of being overcome by it?
“fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
THIS right here. This is how. Daunting circumstances aren’t going to disappear. The battle isn’t over. Trials and hardship aren’t going to cease. Things that challenge are faith will always be there.
But so will our God!
He’s not going anywhere, and that is all the reason we need to not be afraid. WHY?
Because He promises to strengthen us when our knees shake with weakness.
Because He promises to help us when we have no idea what to do or which way to go.
Because He promises to hold onto us when we can’t seem to cling to Him any longer.
So, rest in that today, friends. Lay down your heavy weight of fear today and exchange it for something much lighter—the hope that is found in Christ.
HOPE: a confident expectation, unwavering trust in the unchanging character of God.
We have this hope. Let’s not forget that.
