Anyone else out there ever feel slightly intimidated when you hear the catch phrases “the Proverbs 31 Woman” or “a wife of noble character”? Don’t be shy. Feel free to nod in agreement because I guarantee that you are not alone. We read through the description of the woman in Proverbs 31, and I’ll bet many of us have given up before we’ve ever even tried to start. “How could I ever be like her? She rises early? Ok, I’m out!” Seriously though, the more I’ve looked into, the less intimidated I am and the more motivated I’ve become. To be the wife of noble character is not to achieve perfection. Rather, it is to pursue Jesus Christ so much so that every single aspect of our lives radiates His righteousness, including your marriage.
One area in particular that I have committed to focus on in my own marriage is praying for my husband. This might sound elementary, however, I think many of us deceive ourselves into thinking that because we’ve thought a lot about him, we’ve prayed for him. Prayer is a discipline, one that is entered into intentionally and never by accident. I’m talking about time on our knees, interceding for our other half. When is the last time we did that?
Ladies, if we are not praying for our men, then who is? It is not only our duty, but it is our honor and privilege to boldly approach the throne of grace with confidence on his behalf. So, I want to share with you some prayers that I’ve been using in my prayer time for my husband. This is in no way a script, but rather a guideline, a jumping off point for you. Remember, prayerful lives are powerful lives! Let’s get on our knees for our husbands today, and become twice the foe of Hell we ever were standing on our feet.
Lord, make me a tool of reconciliation, peace, healing, and forgiveness, so that our home is a place that he longs to come home to.
Lord, help me to accept him the way he is and not try to change him. Help me trust you with any changing that needs to be done in him.
Lord, bless my husband at work with favor, success, and prosperity.
Lord, keep my husband from temptation and from impure, evil, negative, or sinful thoughts.
Lord, continue to develop him into the godly leader that you desire him to be, and help me to be patient in the process.
Lord, fan into flame a desire within him to know your Word and to walk in your truth.
Lord, remind him to always turn to You and trust in You for all things.
Lord, reveal to me his wants and needs, and give me a willingness and readiness to meet those needs.
