“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:19-23
Tonight was an extraordinary night…a night filled with intentional, bold, confident, powerful prayer. I am beyond blessed to have a small group of women that I call friends who have committed to praying for the ministry of Neue Thing and have agreed to come together every other week for a time of uninterrupted, focused prayer. Tonight was like no other. As we joined together and lifted high the name of Jesus Christ, we were blessed to be found in the midst of His presence. There is simply no greater thing than to be found on our knees at His feet. There is no greater joy than to experience the wonder and majesty of our God. Tonight, we met with Him, and He inclined His ear to hear our prayers.
I had been meditating on the above passage in Hebrews leading into our time of prayer. Something struck me as I read over this familiar passage. Jesus had just outlined His resume for us in the previous verses of chapter 10, giving us every reason to have confidence when we approach Him in prayer. This is why verse 19 begins with the word “therefore”. Therefore what? Since Christ’s sacrifice was once and for all, we can approach the throne of grace with confidence, with expectation, with unwavering faith and hope because…He who promised is faithful. Having these verses fresh in my mind caused me to have an entirely refreshed perspective. Jesus invites us to come with a sincere heart and with full assurance of faith. There is no need to come doubting, fearful, wavering. He has given us every reason to be confident in the one we pursue. He is faithful. He is so good, and He will fulfill every promise He has made.
So, my friends, I urge you today, wherever you are, whatever circumstance you might find yourself in, draw near to God. Come with a sincere heart, seeking Him and His glory. He beckons you to come. He invites you in. Come with confidence and expectation to meet with a Holy God and to be changed in His presence. To experience the presence of God is to be changed. Choose today to be found on your knees in prayer.
