The past two months have been a bit of a whirlwind for me. Almost eight weeks ago now, my husband and I welcomed our firstborn son into this crazy world, and life as we know it will never be the same. It’s incredible to me every time I look into our little guy’s face and think about what he’s going to be when he grows up. I get choked up thinking about all that he’s going to experience in his life. More than anything else, though, I pray that he will grow to know and love Jesus as His Lord and Savior. There’s nothing more important to me for him than that.
Our son is going to grow up in a much different world than I did. It was relatively acceptable when I was a child to say I was a Christian. It wasn’t nearly as polarizing to hold to biblical truth about who Jesus is. Sure, there have always been nay-sayers, but not like today. To claim that there is absolute truth and that this truth is found in God’s Word will award you the title “intolerant” pretty quickly in our world today. We live in a world that teaches us that truth is relative, that whatever is true for you is true for you, but don’t try to impose that on someone else.
Here is where today’s “I believe” statement comes in. The Bible is not vague on this one. This is a black and white issue. Where the world paints this one gray, the Bible shouts clarity. Here it is:
I believe that there is only one way.
What does this mean? Well, all roads don’t lead to heaven. All paths don’t end up at God. It might sound nice and taste good, but it isn’t truth. Scripture makes it very clear for you and for me that Jesus is the only way to the Father.
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
“Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.” Isaiah 43:10b-11
Still, even with these undeniable truths staring us in the face, we have done an excellent job of creating all sorts of substitutes. We’ve excelled at replacing Jesus with just about anything, and we’ve chosen to bow down to man and people pleasing before bowing down to God and making His pleasure our #1 priority. Jesus Himself said that there is no other way, but we’ve tried to create lots of different ways.
Even as unpopular as this truth might be, I will stand by it forever. There is no other way. There is no other name. There is no other truth.
I believe that there is only one way.
