Ladies, I must confess to you that I’m not always found on my knees in prayer – when the bills are high and the funds are low, when the conflict in the home rises like the ocean’s tide, when busyness threatens to rob me of my sanity and much needed rest, when ministry demands seem beyond my ability to meet, when doubt grows faster than my faith, when worry is the order of the day…
But one thing I know to be true is this:
There is unimaginable power in prayer.
My daily battle, perhaps just like yours, is pushing aside the pressing and urgent, and prioritizing the most important: Christ Jesus, His Word, and time spent on my knees in communion with Him. These three things align and order my moments and chaos every single time I prioritize them. Every single time.
Currently, my call to battle is for my marriage and for my husband. Ladies, your husband is your first and most important ministry on this earth. Not your children, not your job, not your volunteer work, not your charity, not your friends, not your neighbors, not your ministry. Loving, serving, and praying for your husband is your first priority and calling, second only to knowing, serving, loving, and following hard after Jesus. I would go so far as to submit to you today that every area of chaos and disorder in your life is more than likely a result of misplaced priorities. Jesus first, husband second, everything else next.
This might be difficult for many of us to swallow, but know that these very principles are found within the pages of God’s Word. Search the Scripture for yourself. And while you’re at it, would you choose to join me on my knees in praying for our husbands? I want to be the praying wife, not the nagging one. I want to be the supportive wife, not the competitive one. I want to be the helpful wife, not the discouraging one. If we would just start praying daily for our husbands, what fruit we might harvest in our marriages and in our homes!
I’m going to borrow the beautiful words below from a woman named Christine Wyrtzen who wrote this prayer for her husband. Join me today and every day this week praying these words for your husband.
Lord, let me be his sunshine
When the skies are dark and gray;
Le me be his comfort
When he’s had a long hard day.
Let me warm his shelter
When the world is harsh and cold;
Let me be submissive
When the rest on earth are bold.
Let me be his pillow
When he’s tired and needs a rest;
Let me be assuring when he faces some hard test.
Let me pay attention
When the world is pressing in;
Let me understand
When no one else can comprehend.
Let me walk beside him
When he needs to have a friend;
Let me be something real
In a world of pretend.
Let me sing sweet music
When the heart’s without a song.
Let me be his living joy
Each moment all along.
I love this poem, so beautiful and encouraging! Thinking I might put it on my wall somewhere to remind in a daily basis. Thanks for sharing Cherie!!
I get these sent to my work email so some days I dont get to read them on the day they are sent. Today I was catching up on a few and this one I desperately needed to read today. Thank you so much for your heart Cherie. This is both convicting and greatly needed in my life. Love you sister!
