Forgiveness – our aim this week, our focus, our goal. Perhaps the more we stare at it, the more we take a long hard look at the command to forgive, the more we will see our deficiency in it. We must come to an agreement with the Lord on this matter of forgiveness. We must possess the attitude that says, “God’s Word says it. I believe it. That settles it.” After reading yesterday’s post, after spending some time meditating on those few scriptures, did anyone come to mind? Is there someone that you need to forgive? Is there an offense that you simply need to let go of and move on with the Lord to greater things?
Over ten years ago, God blessed me with a dear friend. He caused our paths to cross in college, and we remain dear friends to this day. Her heart for the Lord has encouraged me to pursue God more. Her passion for worship has taught me to worship the Lord in reckless abandon. Her gifts have blessed me tremendously. She writes and records some of the most heartfelt, passionate, God-honoring songs I’ve heard. One of those songs in particular came flooding into her heart over ten years ago in a college dorm room, and the words have blessed thousands of lives since. Today, I share the words of her inspired hit “Let Go” with you, praying that God ministers to you powerfully as He has ministered to me through this song. My prayer for each of us today is this: “God, move us to forgiveness today. Melt our hardened hearts, and help us to let go.”
Let Go by Lindsay McCaul
I want to let go, I’m weary and bound
I’m giving it up; I’m laying it down
Take it away, out of my hands
Out of my reach and safe in your plans.
‘Cause I need to know, that you can hear me
Fill me with your peace, and cover me gently
Like only you can…
So take me, and hold me, break me and mold me
Take me, and hold me, break me and mold me
I want to let go
Cradle my hands, knuckles so white
Open them up, and say it’s alright
Show me a plan, call it your own
Make it a journey, leading me home
‘Cause I need to know, that you can hear me
Fill me with your peace, and cover me gently
Like only you can…
So take me, and hold me, break me and mold me
Take me, and hold me, break me and mold me
I want to let go
Cherie. I love this song! You shared it with me years ago when we first met and I am happy to come back to it as we contemplate forgiveness…i love the verse “cradle my hands, knuckles so white”…we really tend to hold tight to our hurts and in doing so, unforgiveness remains, though we sometimes don’t realze it. This song is a beautiful expression of what God can do if we open our hands and let go.
