“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” James 1:17a
Naturally, as we approach Thanksgiving, we are increasingly more mindful of what we’re thankful for. We gather together with family and friends and celebrate over incredible amounts of food and festivities, laughter and cheer. It’s easy to list the many things I’m thankful for this time of year. There’s just something different in the air, a joy that invades our hearts, and it’s as if heaven has reached down to earth and smiled.
I love the reminder in James 1:17 that these things that cause us to be thankful are gifts from God. Every single thing in our lives that brings joy to our hearts and a smile to our faces is a good gift from our Father. Do we thank Him for these things? I read a quote recently on Pinterest that caused me to really think about what it means to live a life of thanksgiving, and not just for one day once a year.
“What if you woke up tomorrow morning with only the things that you thanked God for today?”
I’m ashamed to say that my life would be pretty bare and void of the multitude of blessings that I’m experiencing even in this moment. Because I forget to be thankful. Because we forget to be thankful. Do you know that God never tires of hearing our praise? It never gets old to Him. We could thank Him for the same things every day, and it would bring Him pleasure. An attitude of thanksgiving is one that blesses the heart of our Father in Heaven. He gives good gifts to His children. Have you thanked Him lately for those gifts?
Take a moment right now and make a list of the things you’re thankful for. Be thankful if that list goes on and on and you can’t seem to stop writing. Keep thanking Him. Remember, He never grows tired of hearing us say “thank you Jesus”.
I’m thankful for…
…the sound of laughter from the children playing down the street.
…the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning.
…the blessing of family near and far.
…long walks on a chilly, Fall evening with my husband by my side.
…every single opportunity to encourage and bless someone by sharing God’s Word.
…each one of you that reads Neue Thing and the community that we have.
…the sun setting on a day that just needs to end and the beautiful sunrise of a new day that promises a clean slate.
…cooler weather after a long, hot summer.
What are you thankful for?
Absolutely LOVE this reminder, especially the Pinterest quote…totally made me think of how much I'm blessed with & forget to be grateful for on a daily basis… thank you Cherie for reminding me…Happy Thanksgiving!!
