“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
I know that there are times in our lives when we just need to be reminded of God’s constant presence. We fear and we have insecurity and we doubt because we forget His presence. We fall apart and are dismayed because we fail to remember His promise – His promise that He will never leave us; He will never forsake us.
I met with a room full of ladies tonight that have grown near and dear to my heart. Over the past few months, we have done Bible study together. I’m not just talking about getting together and reading God’s Word. I’m not just referring to praying together. I’m saying that we have DONE the thing together. We’ve dove deep into God’s Word together, pulled from its truth, found new life in Christ, and pursued after Him that much more because of it. We have DONE Bible study together, and I am so grateful for this group. Tonight, we took a look at a very familiar passage to me and perhaps to many of them as well, but it spoke a new word over each of us tonight, and my prayer is that it ushered freedom into our lives, freedom from the bondage of insecurity. We studied Psalm 139, a passage rich with the truth of God’s love for us. The majority of this Psalm literally gushes about God’s love for us, and it ends with the only right response of the heart that is truly changed by God’s love – the desire to have a heart like His.
Several years ago, my friend Meredith Andrews wrote a song titled “You’re Not Alone”. I remember the very first time I heard it. I couldn’t keep the tears from streaming down my face. As the words of the song played out, I sensed God singing the words over me, singing over my brokenness and my pain. I want to share these words with you today with the hope that the truth of God’s Word will set your heart free to fully trust His love. Among the many truths found within Psalm 139, a particular truth boasts throughout – it’s the truth that we are never alone. God is always right there, right beside us, promising never to leave us and never to forsake us. Even when we try to run from Him, His love pursues. There is not a single place that we can escape His presence. Take a moment and watch the video for “You’re Not Alone”. May the God of love usher healing into every hurting and broken part of your heart, and may you be set free today to take Him at His Word and to trust in His constant presence. He is right here.
