Will you join me today in prayer for those who are grieving the loss of their children, sisters, family, and friends? Will you pass this prayer on to those you know that will join along with us? Prayer is powerful; let us not ever forget that. God is bigger than this present evil, and prayer ushers His power into our lives.
Wonderful, merciful Savior,
According to your love that never fails, show your mercy towards those who are grieving and mourning. (Psalm 51:1-2)
When all that is within them feels parched and broken, frail and weak, remind them of your unfailing love and your covenant of peace that you promise to not remove from their lives. (Isaiah 54:10)
When confusion and fear threaten to overwhelm them, help them to lean into you, to depend solely upon you, and to trust completely in you Lord, and to resist the temptation to rely upon their own understanding of the situation. (Proverbs 3:5)
When their hurt overwhelms them and their sorrow aches within them, gently remind each one that your healing work is most effective when they choose to trust you. When they find themselves bound by discouragement and the pieces of their broken hearts surrounding them are all that they can see, enable them to call to mind your faithfulness that you were sent to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty for the captives, and to open the prison doors to those who are bound! (Isaiah 61:1)
Though the weight of disappointment is real and the pain is tangible, your presence is more real, and in you they can find hope and strength. Because your mercies are new each and every morning, they need not be consumed. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Because your love is better than life, allow praise to be on their lips. (Psalm 63:3)
Because you, O Lord, are a rock and a fortress, help them to wait upon you, and in doing so they will not be shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2)
Because you have promised to complete the good work you have started in all of your children (Philippians 1:6), increase their trust in you to know that even in this brokenness, you are able to use this for their good and that you will glorify yourself through their lives as they respond in faith. (Romans 8:28)
Help them to believe that not one ounce of pain, not one hour of brokenness, not one season of discouragement is wasted when they choose to unite themselves with you and your purposes. You alone are able to create wholeness out of brokenness, to make beauty from ashes. Overwhelm every single fiber of their beings with your healing embrace. Although it is impossible for us to piece back together what has been shattered and torn, there is not one thing that is impossible for you, Lord. (Matthew 19:26)
You are the God who heals. So as they continue in this brokenness for however long you see fit, meet them with your spoken Word, and sing over each one, “My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Denise Hulcher says
"You, Lord, long for them to come to You so that You may show them Your love and compassion. For You are faithful and bless those who call upon You and wait for You to help them." (Isaiah 30:18).
