A few years ago, I came across a book titled Praying God’s Word. My life has never been the same. I ventured into the pages of this book with a dear friend completely unaware of what I was about to encounter.
I met the Lord on the pages of His Word, I came to know His power at work in my life, and I will never go back. Not only did the content of this book transform my heart and my mind in my walk with the Lord, but the concept simply changed me forever. I began to learn what it meant to infuse scripture into my daily prayer life, to speak God’s Word back to Him.
I’ve now read through this book several times, but each time challenges me afresh; each time draws me closer to the heart of Christ; each time I come to treasure God’s Word more than before. There is such power in the spoken word, and we already know the power that God’s Word possesses – it’s alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)
Bottom line, it accomplishes the purposes that God intends it to accomplish. That’s powerful!
The intent of this particular post is to simply pray God’s Word and to invite you to do the same. Get your hands on a copy of God’s Word and dive in for yourself. When we pray God’s Word, we speak truth over our circumstances and as a result, we are set free.
A Prayer for Life: Praying God’s Word
Heavenly Father,
You are the creator of all things and to you alone all praise is due. As much as I am aware of that reality, I far too often find myself doubting your ability to act on behalf. As the boy’s father cried out to you to heal his son, I too cry out “I believe….help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
I desire to live by faith and no longer by sight . (2 Cor. 5:7) So, I will choose to fix my eyes on you, Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2) because with you all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
You have proven yourself faithful in my past, you are near to me in my present, so teach me to trust in your unchanging character that you will always remain faithful even in my unknown future. You are able to do exceedingly more than I could ever hope for, ask for, or even imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
You spoke the universe into existence, and you hold everything in the palm of your hand. Your love for me is indescribable. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. (Psalm 139:13) You rise to show me compassion. (Isaiah 30:18) You promise to guide me always and satisfy my needs. (Isaiah 58:11)
So, as I choose to rehearse your faithfulness Lord, cause my own faith to be strengthened by the truth of who you are. You are greater than the trials I am currently facing, and I choose this day to trust that you will see me safely through. (Acts 28:1)
In Jesus’ name
Amen
