“Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so that the redeemed might cross over?” Isaiah 51:10
Oh, to be on those fateful shores of the Red Sea that day so very long ago, standing amongst the redeemed of Israel…just freed out of hundreds of years of slavery, escaping the death grip of the Egyptians, fleeing into the wilderness as they followed their leader, not knowing what would become of them. With the pursuing armies of Pharaoh on their heels and the deep waters of the sea before them, it doesn’t take much to imagine their fear. Would I have been found among the faithful or the doubting? No doubt, many of them probably accepted imminent death, not able to see a way out of this one. But then, God began to breathe across those waters. Providence and hope collided with the miraculous that day on those shores as God saw to it that each one of His children were brought safely through to the other side.
We would do well to remember the faithfulness of our God in times past. How many “waters” have we faced in this life, unable to see a way beyond or around them? When the waves threatened to sweep over your head that was barely above water, when the last shred of hope was stripped from you through devastating loss, where did you turn? Who calmed the seas? Who parted the waters? If you are reading this right now, God’s mercies have been extended towards you again today allowing you to take your next breath.
Hope in the face of despair.
If you’re still reading, it is the Lord Jesus Christ who has continued to bring you through these waters you are currently facing.
Confidence in the midst of the storm.
It was the same God we praise today who parted the waters of the Red Sea, making a way for His redeemed to cross over…on dry land. If we have embraced by faith the cross of Jesus Christ, you and I both stand among the redeemed. The “way” He made for them was quite possibly the last way they would have expected, but He faithfully saw them safely through. When God shows up in unexpected ways with the lifeboat that we’ve been waiting for, do we embrace His hand or look for a different escape route? His Word to you today might possibly be the very hope you have been waiting for:
He is able to part the waters, and He is able to see you safely through.
God will often show up in ways we least expect Him to, but know this:
He will ALWAYS show up. He never leaves. That is a promise that we can rest in.
Do you need Him today, more than you feel that you need your next breath? Breathe this prayer back to Him today. Call out to Him in your need, and meet Him at the waters.
“Part the Waters/I Need Thee Every Hour”
When I think I’m going under, part the waters, Lord
When I feel the waves around me, calm the sea
When I cry for help, oh, hear me Lord, and hold out Your hand
Touch my life; Still the raging storm in me
I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford
I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain
Come quickly and abide, or life is vain
I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee
