“You will seek me and find me. When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, declares the LORD…” Jeremiah 29:13-14a
Have you ever given much thought to the things that captivate your heart? Seriously, right now, just take a moment and think about the top five things in your life that possess your greatest affections. Perhaps for some of you, thoughts of your spouse, children, family, or friends are already bringing a smile to your face as you contemplate just how much you love them…with all your heart.
It’s incredible what we are capable of doing for those we love, is it not? We will go to great lengths for the ones we love, and no one better try to get in our way, right? Can you imagine with me for just a moment if you were to direct those affections and efforts, even for just a day, towards seeking the LORD? Take a minute to reflect on that. All the effort you put forth in loving those that are most dear to you…what if your desire for the LORD and your passion for knowing Him exceeded your efforts of loving those dearest to you?
What if?
Can you imagine how different your life would be if you sought after the LORD “with all your heart”, withholding nothing in your pursuit of Him, but rather considering everything else a loss in comparison to knowing your God? The Bible tells us here clearly in Jeremiah that when we choose to pursue Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.
I’m guessing that I’m not alone when I say that there have been times when I’ve wondered where God was. In seasons of tremendous hurt and pain, I’ve been found questioning the Lord, asking Him where He’s gone to and why I feel so alone. Anybody else? What comforts me most about this verse is that our wholehearted pursuit of God is met with the promise of His presence. We no longer need to live in doubt or fear of abandonment. God promises that we will find Him when we seek Him…with all our heart. Not just a part of it, not half-heartedly, but with all of it. Don’t miss this…with the LORD, it’s all or nothing.
Where are you right now? Are you resolved to seek Him with all of your heart? Be assured that when you do, you will find the Almighty God, and you’ll find Him receptive, and ready to meet with you.
